We are trying to convert Gallons to Kilograms. That is easy enough for water. But we aren’t using selling or buying water. We know we need to get Density into the calculation. However, we are not having any luck figuring that into the conversion factor.
Is anyone else doing this type of conversion? Or does anyone have possible suggestions on how to get Density figured into the conversion?
Any help or direction would be appreciated.

You should be able to do this if you have the Advanced UOM license as this allows you to create attributes for parts containing custom UOM conversions.
We do not use UOM conversion, as we work with electronic parts, but I did find the UOM Class as a menu item on the Material Mgmt, Inventory Mgmt, Setup menu. The help text states you set up a conversion factor here. The Epicor example uses eachs in a case, but I did find a Gallons to Kilograms converter which uses the following formula:
Kilograms = gallons x (item weight of 1 gallon) x density in g/ml
Therefore your conversion factor would be the item weight of 1 gallon x density in g/ml.
Not sure if this will help or not, but it might give you some ideas.

Have you checked out the field Part.NetWeight? If you could load the unit net weight (for example if your IUM is gallons, the weight in kilograms per gallon) into this field, then make sure you set Part.NetWeightUOM to kilograms. After that, whenever you need the weight in KG you would only need to read the field from Part and multiply by the quantity.
