Back Flush - Liquid Materials in UM of Ounces

Manufacturing Production Manager Context:

In all my years of manufacturing and working with MRP and ERP systems one of the biggest issues is the use of managed ‘oz’ as a material measurement. And, as the system gets ‘smarter’ the use of ‘oz’ as a material measurement gets harder to reconcile.

Example: All primer paints, All top coat paints, Touch up paint, Skydrol, Bond(s), Adhesives, etc.

In our finish-line and Assembly departments alone we process hundreds if not thousands of operational queues each day/week/month and due to that, each one of these has to be touched and investigated by another supervisor or manager in order to review the overage or under allocated quantity of ‘oz’ used and approve before closing, so it can move to accounting for billing. In essence, we have to ‘touch’ each one multiple times.

In my previous company history experience, the instances for this aspect is not managed inside the system but is worked strictly as an inventory function, and processed as overhead.

Note: Currently we auto ‘backflush’ man hours on our Makino mill line only.

Epicor Questions:

Given all of the above;–

1.       In Epicor can we just auto ‘backflush’ the estimated material usage quantity in specific queues/operations or Part Numbers (for Paint/Oz’s for example)?

2.       In Epicor can we apply a plus/minus acceptable variance to specific queues/operations or Part Numbers (for Paint/Oz’s for example)?
