Question

Purchased Kits

Supply Chain is beginning to have more raw materials that if “A” is ordered, “B” would need to be ordered at the same time, every time.  Without heavy inventory monitoring, we find “A” is getting ordered (based off buy signals) and the vendor is reminding us that “B” is needed as well.    Upon troubleshooting, “A” had scrap performed against it, which misaligned inventory levels between the two.

We have a new scenario in which “A” also needs “B”, “C”, “D”, “E” and “F”, you can imagine why I am trying to get in front of this quickly!

Has anyone been able to create kits at the purchasing level, vs kits at the sales level?   Or, can anyone suggest a process that would work for these scenarios?

Thank you in advance!

One easy and quick way for this would be to put a Purchasing comment on all the related parts reminding the buyer to buy all the related parts. At that point the buyer can decide to either buy or not buy depending on the situation.

That is what we have done for some situations like this both in purchasing and selling.
