I have seen UD Fields used for this type of thing, and then BPMs… example:do not ship part Do not allow purchasing of this part Customer Hard Hold (not a credit hold… a hard hold… do not accept anything including orders, shipments, etc… even unrelease all jobs associated with make direct jobs). Supplier hard hold (do not allow any transactions against supplier)all of the above requires multiple BPMs to define the rules, but in most cases the BPMs are very easy 2-3 widget BPMs.
I have done something very similar to what Paul Jackson recommended as well.. going back 24+ years, we used to have a fee called “HKFreight” (Hong Kong Freight).. the UOM was DOLLAR, and we could include up to two decimals for each dollar… so when we wanted to charge $5.67, we shipped that quantity. it was non-qty bearing.
Physical Inventory (and Cycle Counting) uses the same basic processes… it is very controlled, and if you do not follow the process, you will have challenges. You should be able to find information in the help files as well as on Epicor Education in EpicWeb.. I have taught the subject multiple times at Insights, as well as at User Group meetings and individual customers. When done properly, it can be used to create a very solid process of validating your inventory. Here is a chart of all the pieces and what needs to be done for Cycle Counting. Note that Physical Inventory is basically a “big cycle count” in that instead of only selecting part of your warehouse, you select ALL the parts from your warehouse.
You can create a new part number called “RecoveredMaterials” that is a non-stock part, and put that onto the JOB as a material with a quantity 0… THEN you can go into Job Receipt to Salvage, and choose that RecoveredMaterials part number, but the change out the part number that you salvage to do the transaction. put in the correct quantity… you can do this over and over again for all the materials you recover.
