Material Request Queue

We are cleaning up some unclosed Sales Orders from several years ago but when trying to close the orders get the message about their being referenced by at least one material queue.  I have looked all over for the dashboard for the Material Request Queue but can’t find a menu item for Advanced Materials Management (licensed) except under Data Collection and that one has no General Operations sub-menu.This is for Kinetic 2021.2.9 - Any idea where I can delete items from the queue?Thanks,-Todd C.

Three-way Matching

Before I jump into creating a dashboard I wanted to see what others are doing for automating matching of invoices to PO as well as matching item receipts to payments.  I have never seen a built-in capability in Epicor but a BAQ & Dashboard should not be too hard.Thanks,-Todd C.

What is Epicor-side Validation for CADLink

Originally posted under Ancillary Products.We are using CADLink to push BOMs from SolidWorks to Epicor.  Mostly it works fine but lately when adding a part to SolidWorks it fails to come into Epicor for the one part, leaving unapproved part revs to be used in Epicor.  QBuild says we need to adjust or “reevaluate the validity” of the Epicor-side validation.  Something we’ve never had to do, don’t know where to begin, and whether this is something QBuild is supposed to handle.  Nothing has changed at our end and single parts just stopped coming over to Epicor.Any ideas where to begin trying to resolve this?Thanks,-Todd C.

Kinetic 2023.1.5 - BAQ Designer

Over the weekend we were upgraded (Cloud) to 2023.1.5 and now I can’t run BAQ in Classic mode.  It attempts to open in a Kinetic window and then shuts down and goes away.  I can run BAQ if I select Modern or Kinetic mode but it is really hard to navigate, like all of Kinetic.  Before I ask Epicor Support, anyone know of a way to run BAQ in Classic mode?Thanks,-Todd C.

Add Existing BAQ as a Subquery

This may not be possible but I have to ask…  Is there a way to take an existing BAQ and add it to a new BAQ as a subquery?  I tried importing to a blank subquery but that did nothing.  The imported query does not even show in the subqueries table list.  It would save me hours to not have to recreate it from scratch.Thanks,-Todd C.

Change Log - UserID Field Rules

I need to get the UserID for JobMtl change log records so I can see who added materials.  UserID would allow linking to UserFile to get the list of security groups so I can filter out for just people in the Engineering group. But in the change log records many of the results have no UserID - it is blank.  What are the internal rules for determining when Epicor populates the UserID,  or not?Thanks,-Todd C.

Add Table Field to RDD

I only need to add a field to an SSRS report once in a blue moon so it seems I am always relearning the needed steps.  For the Material Transaction Detail report I need to add the EntryPerson.  In the RDD maintenance it is an excluded field so I have cleared the check marks on a new definition and referenced this in the new report style.  But in SSRS Report Builder I don’t see the new field.  In RB under the DataSet Properties for PartTran I added EntryPerson.  Now I can add that field OK but when I run the new report style it contains no data although a quick BAQ shows names for all the transactions.I feel that I am missing a step somewhere - possibly in a query but I can’t recall where to do this.  I have a vague memory of a non-intuitive way to access the query code.  Any hints?Thanks,Todd Caughey

Subcontract Alternate Part Questions

We have two assemblies - one assembled in-house as a regular manufactured part to be used in the final assembled system.  The other is the same part, assembled from the same sub-components, but obtained from a sub-contract supplier.  The subcontracted part is an alternate for the primary assembly part in cases where outside labor is needed.  These are currently set up as a manufactured part and a purchased part, respectively.  We see that PO suggestions does not suggest purchasing the subcontract version when stock is low for the primary or the alternate.We are trying to re-think the nature of the two parts.  My hunch is that we should make the alternate assembly a straight purchased part and not as a subcontract operation on a job.  I do not believe they are sending the subcomponents out to the supplier to assemble but rather having them secure the components themselves and “sell” the finished alternative part.  This would allow PO Suggestions to deal with it.Any thoughts on handling

AutoUpdate - Local File Header is Corrupt

The Epicor client is trying to update.  It references a .zip file and while extracting files it stops (different files each time)  and says a local file header is corrupt.  I have changed the permissions on the whole Epicor sub-tree and all child objects for full control but that is not working this time.Once upon a time I believe I had to delete everything under the Epicor root folder to resolve something like this but it has been a long time and then it was on-prem and not Cloud.  I have to think this is a known issue and there is a procedure to get around it.Any ideas?Thanks,-Todd C.

PO Approvals - Pt 2

This is a follow-on to another thread from about a year ago with replies in the last few days that I now can’t reply to.  Perhaps too old? Also, I can;t select the Kinetic/Epicor ERP group.  I think my EUG account is messed up.  We just recently renewed the membership.I have exactly the same situation where a new Dir. of Procurement has come onboard and can’t approve POs.  A message pops up that the approved limit has been exceeded and will need to be approved by Jon X but it is Jon X trying to do the approval.  We have followed all the suggestions in the previous thread and still can’t approve the PO.  Jon has his Buyer limit set to 0.00, he is the approver for the Buyer who made the PO and he is no longer an authorized buyer for the person who made the PO.  Not sure what to try next.Also, in field help for the Approval Person field on the Buyer form it says:The user id of the default  person who approves purchases for this buyer when their purchasing limit is exceeded.  This can refe

Epicor Office Minneapolis - Question

I drive by the US 169 and US 12 intersection pretty often, where the Interchange tower that has (had?) Epicor offices for the Twin Cities area.  I see now that the Epicor sign is no longer on the south end.  Has Epicor moved location in the area?  I was suspecting that with all the Epicor people that seem to be working from home they might have found the office space redundant and and expense to be cut.Anyone local know?Thanks,-Todd C.

Cloud Menu Security

The company currently has little or no menu security and security groups set up but needs to change this.  Security by ignorance is a weak strategy.  But when I go into Menu Maintenance everything is grayed out and all the menu levels and items are check marked as “Allow Access to All Users/Groups”.  And this too is grayed out.  My user account has Security Manager checked - along with just about everything else.  I am also a member of the Epicor System Administrator security group.So what controls menu maintenance being grayed out?Kinetic 2021.2.13 SaaS.Thanks,-Todd C.

BAQ Error Question - Bad SQL statement

An odd situation with a BAQ that we have never seen before… In Analyze the BAQ says “Syntax is OK” but when testing we get an error - “Bad SQL statement”.  Not sure if this is related to the fact that is it returning 0 rows or something else at run-time and the error is causing zero rows.  The intent of the BAQ is to create a tab delimited text file with one line of header values and a second line of the data values.  We eventually want the text field to be deposited in a secure FTP site , like a drop box, where BarTender can see it and process the label information.  The SQL “not real” code under the General tab is long but we don’t see anything obvious in it.  The actual table links are in a sub-report and the Top Level SubQuery has only the sub-report with no links to anything else and the display is one huge calculated field (see below) from the fields passed from the SubQuery.Any ideas what the Bad SQL means even when the Syntax is OK?  It says to check the Server Event Logs but I

2022.1 Cloud Upgrade - Broke CADLink from Epicor Partner QBuild

Epicor pushed us to 2022.1 over last weekend.  We use CADLink to coordinate data to/from SolidWorks.  QBuild is an Epicor partner but apparently QBuild was not in the loop for the upgrade and CADLink is now disabled and can’t connect to Epicor.  QBuild is promising an updated installer in the next few days but we have already lost 3 days of engineering production. Anyone else affected by this lately?Thanks,-Todd C.

BAQ Selection Based on File to Table Content

A user is asking for information about parts and wants us to create a BAQ for her for selected parts - up to 250 at a time.  I’m not sure what the best way to approach this is.  First thought is a UD table, populated by a DMT script, from a spreadsheet and using that table of Part Numbers as the top table in the BAQ.  But I was wondering if there is a better way to do this.  Any suggestions?Thanks,-Todd C.

PO Deposit/Downpayment

I have been asked about POs with terms that include a down payment. Such as 50Down, 50Net30.  We’re receiving portions of a Purchase Order, which had a deposit/down payment and as a result, we’re unable to recognize revenue associated with the equipment we’re receiving until the entire PO is closed.Here is an example from the user:To provide an example, let’s say we have a $1M Purchase Order, and we made a 20% down payment. We just received $666k worth of the units (4 of 6 units) and would like to recognize this expense and revenue. But because there was a down payment, our understanding is that we can’t recognize the expense until all 6 units arrive and we can close out the PO. The workaround that we’re aware of is to go back and break this single PO into two, such that one PO has 4 units and the other has 2, allowing us to close/satisfy the entire 4 unit PO.Is there a way to recognize the revenue so far?  I’m not a bean counter but can pass along suggestions.  I found what seems to a

Conditional epiShape via Wizard

I need to make an indicator on PO Lines in PO Entry to draw attention when Inspection Required is check marked.  We are not using the Quality module yet and if that gets checked it causes bad things to happen.  We need people to be aware of it - especially if inherited from Part Class or Vendor.  I have an epiShape item that I want to show only if check marked.  I have been trying to do this with the wizards since I don’t write code and I want it to be on Epicor if an update breaks it.  We are 2021.2.11 SaaS where I believe code not generated by a wizard is discouraged.  I have been asked not to do a BPM because the intention is to eventually use the Quality module features.Is there a way to do this via wizards?Thanks,-Todd C.

SendGrid Email from Kinetic SaaS

Just checking if there are any gotchas to using SendGrid as an email relay from Epicor/Kinetic.  The company had been using it previously and the new IT group said to go ahead and use it.  This would be the free version (up to 100 messages per day) and used only for BPMs to send out warnings on specific events.  Perhaps 20 a day max.Thanks,-Todd C.

DMT - LaborTypePseudo

I am exploring a way to get data dumped out of Kronos into Epicor/Kinetic via DMT.  In addition to trying to convince the company to just use MES, and be done with it.  Currently there is no labor information in Epicor and project costing is done in spreadsheets.  We want to see all the costs in Projects Tracker.I found an option in DMT for TE Labor Detail No Header but I am not sure if this is a viable way to get labor hours onto a Project or Job.  One of the required fields seems to show this may be a solution.  The field is LaborTypePseudo and one of the options is J for Project or it could be P for Production, which I assume is for putting time on a Job.  They only ever have one operation on a job or sub-assembly and that is “assemble”.  So all I would need is the job or project number.Is this a possible route for getting labor hours onto a job or project?  Is there a better way to do this?Thanks,-Todd C.

Cloud MRP - Logfile Question

We recently started running MRP as a scheduled task.  I would like to have my client contact reschedule it with logging turned on for MRP and Scheduling but Help is not very clear about where the log file is put when running in a Cloud environment.  In System Agent Maintenance I can see the Client Directory name ending in the site ID but this does not tell me much about where to find a log file.  It looks a bit like a URL rather than a directory.Sorry about all the cloud questions, the differences take a little getting used to.-Todd C.

Epicor Cloud Integration for Kronos

Kinetic 2021.2.5 SaaSIn a meeting today someone mentioned trying to bring Kronos labor information into Epicor.  Currently there is no labor cost in Epicor so WIP value is incomplete.  The parent organization is all Kronos so the client company I am working for is too.  I came across the Cloud Integration API using Jitterbit and see that it integrates with Kronos.Anyone out there using this and if so does it work OK to get labor costs (or hours) into labor detail records and associated with a job?  Is it automatic or batch run as a scheduled task?  Just testing the waters to see if this is worth the time to investigate further.Thanks,-Todd C.

Advanced Billing for Projects

I am confused by an entry in field help for the Project Level Invoicing Method.   Help says:If advanced billing is not licensed the only options are CS and MB. I can’t find a licensing entry for “Advanced Billing” to know if the client has it or not.  There IS an entry for Project Billing and it is check marked.  Are these one and the same?Thanks,-Todd C.

Cloud Test Environment

What are other sites in the Cloud doing for a Test environment?  We have Pilot, Live and Training.   Everywhere else I have worked at also had a Test database that we updated every week or so from Live and used it as a sandbox to play around in.  Does Epicor support this for the cloud?  If so I would assume there is a cost factor but it might be worth it.   The company has pretty much been hands-off on Pilot since their cloud migration last Spring.

Project Management - Best Practices?

My client company manufactures large automation systems to dispense pharmaceutical products.  Mostly for large hospitals or mail-order delivery.  I see that 5-6 years ago they were using the Project Management module to manage these large build projects - some running 18 months or more with hundreds of sub-assemblies.  Now they seem to have lost the corporate knowledge of how to structure many jobs under one project and they struggle with Revenue Recognition.  I have been trying to explain the benefits they could get if they go back to structuring whole Projects rather than individual jobs.I may need a sanity check but Project Management sure looks like the way to go in this environment.  Anyone else out there manufacturing for large projects like this and successfully using Epicor’s Project Management?  Any tips for explaining the benefits would be much appreciated.  I’m currently refreshing my memory by reading the user guide Project Management section.Running Kinetic 2021.2.5 SaaSTh

BarTender Labels in Cloud

Are there any gotchas in trying to generate labels from BarTender in a Cloud setting?  We are 2021.2.5 SaaS.  I have seen references to needing the Enterprise version of BarTender but that it has to be “installed on the Epicor Server” which could be an issue if Epicor itself does not manage that part.  Our goal is to generate a tab delimited file from a BAQ (driven by a BPM) and have BarTender watch for it in a folder and print to the appropriate printer.  We have most of the bits except for what BarTender needs to monitor the folder - which we believe is the Enterprise part.  Any tips for cloud based BarTender?Thanks,-Todd C.
